I haven’t posted here for a good few months, but this, this, calls for a post…
ART JOURNAL YOUR ARCHETYPES – Mixed Media Techniques for Finding Yourself is a new book by Gabrielle Javier-Cerulli. I just found two copies of the beautiful book in my mail box and I am ready to give one away to one of you visiting here and leaving me your words in the comment box.

About two years ago along with a few others I was honored to be asked to contribute to her book. After a long conversation with Gabrielle exploring my archetypes, I was to create a couple of journal spreads deriving from that newly received information about myself. That new wisdom of an unknown world to me before opened my expression to new directions and the making and preparing of these pages became most meaningful and joyous to me. I made them about two years ago and I am happy to get them both into light. Here they are…

In this book I write this about the archetypes that make me and the connection between journaling and these newly discovered archetypes:
“I make art in books. I notice that I consider my pages to be complete when at least one of my archetypes emerges from total anonymity to full visibility. Very often I find traces of all of them in one page. It makes complete sense to me now. The Visionary, Storyteller, Liberator, Creative, Warrior, Rebel, Pioneer, and Nature Woman in me all make appearances on my behalf when needed. In return I give them “voice” through my visual expression, and the connections that I allow myself to have with the world and all that binds us all.”

When I first saw your art journal pages Orly, I knew I had to meet you and learn how to dive deeper into expression. By the time I could afford to take a class from you, you had moved on to working in passports. I still want to learn how you move into your pages. Why do you splash paint here and there? Why not paint the whole page? I try to figure this out when I sit mesmerized by your work. Your method of expression in your journal is something that sings to me. Would this book be a good fit for me?

What a wonderful book!
I LOVE this idea so much. It sounds a bit like Soul Collage, but – I’m not sure the word…bigger? Or maybe more specific, in helping you connect with just your archetypes? Or, maybe just more comfortable for me, because I already use an art journal.
I feel like Archetypes can’t really be expressed fully in language – they are too connected with the soul for words. We can try to dance around them with language, but we can’t get to the heart of it. Too left-brained. But, oh, expressing it visually – so much YES! Bring on the right-brain!!
I can see this book being a feast for the soul. I’m so happy you’re in this book, because I’ve always seen your you-ness in your work. And I would LOVE to know the primary archetypes that are within me! So, thank you for doing this giveaway. While I’d love to win it (of course!), it’s still going on my Amazon wishlist.
Perhaps this should be a companion to Carolyn Myss’s Sacred Contracts. I love the way journaling of any type can be so revealing.

this is so rad! i love that the figures and faces i am finding in my paintings are my archetypes! even in my abstract work, i will want to keep it formless, but I almost always can find a little face somewhere in it that just can be ignored…now it makes sense. I am an artist and love making collages, mixed media, book art but I have not been able to do art journaling despite having made journals, bought journals and bought books on art journaling. This book sounds like it might reach my inner core and stop making me afraid to put it all down on a regular basis in a book. Then a trusted loved one found my private thoughts-made judgements-and my writing practice got squelched, my words pushed deep within. Just found out about you and your art journaling work through the Bloom True E-Course by Flora Bowly. I am also an Art Journaler and teacher of art Art Journal Workshops. To look at your work gave me a necessary fresh new look on art journaling! I find it sometimes hard to look into the djungel of art journal examples.
